We are Atara, a swim and activewear brand that delivers on performance, fit, quality, and style.

When our founder, Payal, went in search of good-quality active and swimwear, all she could find were good-quality pieces at eye-watering prices or just low-quality pieces that didn’t do anything when it came to fit and performance.

Despite having a host of options in other categories when it comes to clothing, it became evident that the active and swimwear industry, despite booming in India, is clearly underserved. And that’s the idea that started Atara!

Each Atara Piece has been designed, tested, and perfected to ensure every element will leave you feeling confident and supported in every move you make.

High-quality fabric and a relentless obsession with fit and support are always going to be at the heart of what we do, and we are here to make that much more of a reality.

Size Expansion

Although we knew from the start that we wanted to represent more sizes, the fundamental reason we couldn’t do it from the start was because we wanted to do it right. This meant fitting real bodies, not just sizing up patterns. This meant a lot of trial and error and a long process to get us there. And we didn’t want to hold up the entire project for this.

Also, We’re not in the business of creating waste. If we extended to all sizes on all of our products at once, we’d create a huge amount of waste by trying to sell to an audience that we haven’t yet cultivated (because we haven’t yet catered to you!). There are minimum quantities required for every order, per size and that would not have been responsibile for us. But as we develop our customer base, it is our objective to offer no exclusions in our range solely based on size.

We know there’s no magic switch for offering our entire range in all sizes at once. But we are so excited about this journey, furthering our mission to bring the option of sustainable and inclusive activewear and swimwear to all.

This is going to be a massive learning process for us. We are constantly listening and learning new ways to address your grievances, and we are always open ears to new ideas from our community, so if you think we can do things better, please let us know at hello@ataraindia.com.

Our Responsibility

When we started working on Atara, we wanted to do everything right by the brand when it came to sustainability and inclusivity. We wanted to make consciously quality activewear and swimwear accessible and inclusive that didn’t break the bank.

So clearly, we are not fulfilling our mission as a brand if we do not use sustainable fabrics for all our products or don’t offer a size above XL.

Wherever possible, we use GRS-certified recycled nylon in our clothing. Our fabric is made from newly developed, environment friendly fibres, mostly recycled nylon yarns from post-consumer plastic water bottles and other materials. It is considered one of the most eco-friendly fabrics because it reduces our carbon footprint by decreasing CO2 emissions.

Keeping in line with our goals, we are looking forward to introducing more sustainable fabrics into our upcoming ranges, with the goal of using sustainable fabrics in all future collections.
